Senior University 2022

West Haven Prevention Council in partnership with West Haven High School would like to welcome you to our Senior University presentations. 

​

Senior University is an important vehicle used to educate and communicate with the senior students within our community about life after high school graduation.  Whatever the path, whether it be college bound, trade school or entering the work force, our mission is to inform the students on smart decision making.  The transition into adulthood after high school can be overwhelming.  Our goal is give tips, advice and knowledge to ease that process.

It is our expectation that each student view this program in its entirety and complete the post-survey.

The Influences on Youth Forum is developed by: West Haven High School Administrations, Pupil Personnel and West Haven Prevention Council.

PRESENTATIONS

Presentation #1: Digital Identity

Richard Frawley CFCE, Retired Milford Police (CT) and Digital Forensic Specialist from ADF Solutions, Inc. discusses Digital Identity.

As you move forward from high school, the rules for your Digital Identity will change. Learn how to navigate your digital identity and create one that will work for you.

Presentation #2: Digital Wellness with Nadja Streiter 

Nadja Streiter is a psychotherapist, activist, speaker and family coach in Westport, CT. In her practice she treats teens and adults who struggle with unhealthy technology use and video game addiction but she’s a big fan of technology and refers to herself as “tech optimist.” She is also a mom of three college age kids, so she understands some of the challenges our age group faces. One of her favorite topics is Digital Wellness and today she is going to talk with us about how, as we go forward from HS into our futures, we can create and maintain a healthy relationship with digital technology.

Presentation #3: You’ve Got to Nourish to Flourish

Dr. Jennifer Ju, MD is a family medicine physician who completed her residency training at Brown University. During her residency, Dr. Ju participated in a mindfulness based stress reduction program, created by Jon Kabat-Zinn, founding Executive Director of the Center for Mindfulness in Medicine, Health Care and Society at University of Massachusetts. Since then, Dr. Ju has attended multiple workshops with numerous specialists in the field of mindfulness, including those within the field of education. She has also participated in mindfulness meditation programs developed by leaders such as Sharon Salzberg, Rick Hanson, PhD, and Deepak Chopra, MD.


Dr. Ju is dedicated to educating the community about mindfulness and its benefits. Dr. Ju is passionate about educating and empowering all to achieve optimal health and wellness, and to make the most of each moment.

Presentation #4: College Resources

Nilvio Perez, Associate Director of Recruitment and Admissions, Central Connecticut State University

Nilvio Perez graduated from the University of Bridgeport with a Marketing degree and also holds a master’s in leadership from Albertus Magnus College. has been working in higher education for almost 20 years, he started his career as an admissions counselor at the University of Bridgeport. He left UB to become an assistant director of admissions at Albertus Magnus College where he later became director of admissions. In 2015, Nilvio took his current role as the associate director of recruitment and admissions at Central Connecticut State University. He has been involved with national and regional associations as co-chair of students in admissions forum, presenters are various conferences, treasurer for the Connecticut Association for College Admissions Officers, along with numerous panels and keynote speaking engagements. Nilvio resides with his wife Rose in Wallingford, and has four children, Brandon (21), Isabella (15), Josiah (10), and Emma (8) and a dog (Teddy). In his free time Nilvio umpires AAU baseball, plays softball, and enjoys spending time with his family on walks, the movies, and finding new playgrounds and waterparks along the East coast.
